Restgarth Care Home newsletter February 2017

Welcome to Restgarth’s February newsletter.

We would like to give a warm welcome to Dean, our new manager, who joined us at Restgarth in December. Dean has a very friendly approach, he is always ready to listen to our folks and accommodate any requests.

We are also delighted to welcome Julie, our new cook, who recently started with us. Julie has already made some great improvements to our menus, and has a real talent for making scrumptious cakes that can’t be resisted.

Voice of Restgarth. Ten of our residents have formed a committee called the “Voice of Restgarth” which had its first meeting on the 3rd February 2017. The committee will meet every two weeks to discuss any requests to the menu and changes around the home. Also the residents will play a part in our selection of new staff and what skills they would like staff to have in supporting them.

Our residents have been busy knitting squares to make a patchwork blanket for use in the Restgarth van. Our activities coordinator organised our folks to knit the individual squares before being sown together. It really brightens up the interior of our van.

Activities this month: Our residents enjoyed a recent trip to the Theatre Royal in Plymouth to watch “Snow White” with the members of Polperro Memory Café. A few of our residents went shopping at Trago Mills with our activities coordinator and purchased lots of craft items to keep them busy over the next month with stocking up our new shop. We have set up a new shop in our  reception area selling handmade gifts with all proceeds going into providing our residents with an innovative activities schedule. Our chef treated our residents to a special Valentines Day menu which included a delicious white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake.
