NEWSLETTER – APRIL 2015

SPRING AT LAST!

We are at last enjoying the arrival of Spring, with some welcome sunny weather and lighter evenings – perfect for enjoying time in the gardens at Pine Lodge.

The Easter weekend saw some of our residents enjoying additional visits from family and friends, and most were able to enjoy a chocolate egg (or two) with staff and visitors.

GARDENS AND GROUNDS

New Pond

A new pond is being created in the rear gardens close to the outdoor seating area – one of the best spots for catching glimpses of the local wildlife.

We are pleased to be able to add this new feature to our garden, which we hope will bring many hours of joy to all the nature lovers among our residents, staff and visitors.

Resident Pets

With April being “National Pets Month”, it seems a fitting time to provide an update on our resident pets:

  • Rabbits – we are currently exploring options for relocating them to a new area on the grass, and adding a run.  Hopefully the change of location and addition of an outside play area will give us the opportunity to see more of them enjoying their additional freedom and new environment.
  • Kitty – is now five months old, and although kept under close supervision for the moment, is beginning to make more regular visits to the lounge areas where we everyone can enjoy her company and playful antics.

MEALS

We are pleased to welcome our new cook Julie as a valuable addition to our catering team.  The team have put together a new menu, which includes new seasonal produce, a variety of new supper dishes and an even greater range of home-made cakes and biscuits.  The new four week menu has evolved with the help of residents’ comments and feedback.  It is available in print and being introduced at the end of April.

DATE FOR DIARY

We are taking part in the National Care Home Open Day on Friday 19th June 2015, and looking forward to welcoming old and new friends to Pine Lodge.  More details to follow.

PINE LODGE NEWSLETTER     JANUARY 2015

A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

At the turn of the New Year we are again looking to see how we can improve our service provided to the residents of Weston and beyond. One feature of the New Year will be the development of our new quality assurance program. This will entail asking residents and their relatives to complete new questionnaires asking what we do and how well we do it.

LIFT

Plans for the new lift are continuing although we are currently test drilling the floor to make sure that breaching between ground and first floor is a viable option for the site chosen. More to follow…

DECORATING

We continue with our program of redecoration and re-carpeting. Handyman, John is now with us on a regular basis so we will be able to move forward pretty quickly. Tony, our previous handyman has now retired and left at the end of last month. We wish him a very happy retirement.

PREVIOUS QUESTIONAIRE:

The results of our previous quality survey are now available and the following provides a brief overview of the findings.

Meals: Residents felt that they needed a greater say in menu planning. Despite opinions being sought at the residents meeting, Fiona has taken the step of talking with residents individually to seek ideas on what to include in the new menus.

Similarly, some residents felt that they could be better informed as to the home`s program of activities. A monthly plan has now been devised and this will be on going; the plan will be given to all residents at the beginning of each month.

Generally, everyone was happy with the running of the home although there were a couple of comments regarding the fees that we charge. As happened, we are happy to explain the nature of our fees to residents and relatives.

In the interests of providing a better service, the views of residents and their representatives are always welcome.
