We had a great night on 5th November with delicious hot chocolate drinks to keep everyone cosy whilst watching the fireworks and sparklers.
Remembrance Sunday. We were very honoured and proud to have Peter attend the remembrance memorial service, on everyone’s behalf; to pay his respects and remember all the service personnel for their efforts, achievements and sacrifices.
In Flanders fields – John McRae
“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.”
New Lift. We are so pleased with the new lift that we have recently installed at Pine Lodge. This has made a huge difference to our folks residing on the first floor with it’s spacious and easy to use facilities.
We are looking forward to various Christmas entertainments that will happening in December and we will keep you posted on these in the near future.
Welcome to the June newsletter. There’s been lots happening !
Our lovely resident Betty celebrated her 100th birthday this month with a party for friends and family. Betty is the second of our ladies to reach this amazing milestone this year. Congratulations Betty!
ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
We are looking forward to our SUMMER PARTY, being held on:
SATURDAY 18th JULY- From 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
This year the attractions include a BBQ, cake stall, refreshments, raffle and games.
Our summer party is an important date in our calendar as its hugely popular with residents, staff and their families – bring on the sunshine!
If anyone has new ideas for stalls or entertainment, or would like to help on the day, we’d love to hear from you.
THE HOME AND GARDEN
We have introduced some beautiful new lounge chairs this month, which have made our seating areas even more inviting places to relax and socialise.
A fishpond has also been created in the rear garden to encourage wildlife and adds an additional interest for residents and visitors alike.
Resident cat Kitty is enjoying exploring the home and gardens, but is struggling a little with her social skills! We are planning to introduce an older cat that enjoys lots of company and attention and can show Kitty how it’s done. Hopefully we can offer a home to a cat from a local rescue centre – we’ll post updates on facebook so please look out for these.
Alongside our homecare, respite care and day care services, we can offer short term residential care and support for an elderly relative. Family can enjoy a holiday (at home or abroad) safe in the knowledge that their loved one is being wonderfully looked after, and even enjoying a holiday of their own! Why not contact us to find out more.
Welcome to the May edition of the Pine Lodge newsletter.
This month two of our residents, Doreen and Jack, shared a very special occasion. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a party for close family and friends. They married in May 1945 – the same month and year that saw the end of WWII and Victory in Europe celebrations, so there would have been little excuse for them to forget their anniversary over the years!
Our warmest congratulations go to them and to George who recently enjoyed his 87th birthday.
ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
Our popular activities programme continues and we have introduced a weekly themed quiz sheet alongside new materials for our regular quiz nights.
We are also starting to put together our Summer Events Programme. An events suggestion box has been placed in the dining room, to prompt discussion and gather ideas. So whether its an old-fashioned picnic, BBQ, themed evening or something completely different, just drop a note into the suggestion box or speak to a member of staff.
A warm welcome to Ilianna and Nicola who joined our care team this month.
GARDENS & GROUNDS
The warmer weather is making sure our rose gardens bloom, and maintaining the lawns and borders is a team effort. Anyone recognise this budding Alan Titchmarsh?
As promised in our April newsletter, below are further details regarding our upcoming Open Day:
Date: Friday 19th June
Time: 2:00 – 4:00
Cream Teas will be served for residents and guests, with tours for new visitors to Pine Lodge. All ages welcome.
Pine Lodge Home Care Manager gets CQC seal of approval
Pine Lodge Home Care Services are delighted that Emma Bollen has been awarded Registered Manager status by the Care Quality Commission. To achieve this status managers must demonstrate that they provide safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led services that comply with the new fundamental standards of quality and safety.
Emma joined Pine Lodge as trainee manager in May 2014 and has been instrumental in developing the home care service, which provides person-centred care and support across Weston-super-Mare for adults who need help in maintaining their independence and managing their daily routines.
Responding to the news, director Mr Jonathan Thrush said: “This is really positive news for both our current and new clients. Finding the right care and support for loved ones can be an overwhelming and daunting prospect and this registration highlights our dedication to delivering a first class service based on old fashioned principles of care, compassion and respect. I am delighted that Emma’s superb organisational and leadership skills have been recognised through this process.”
Further information about the service can be found via the website www.dev.orchardcare.co.uk or by contacting Emma on 01934 622539.
We are at last enjoying the arrival of Spring, with some welcome sunny weather and lighter evenings – perfect for enjoying time in the gardens at Pine Lodge.
The Easter weekend saw some of our residents enjoying additional visits from family and friends, and most were able to enjoy a chocolate egg (or two) with staff and visitors.
GARDENS AND GROUNDS
A new pond is being created in the rear gardens close to the outdoor seating area – one of the best spots for catching glimpses of the local wildlife.
We are pleased to be able to add this new feature to our garden, which we hope will bring many hours of joy to all the nature lovers among our residents, staff and visitors.
With April being “National Pets Month”, it seems a fitting time to provide an update on our resident pets:
Rabbits – we are currently exploring options for relocating them to a new area on the grass, and adding a run. Hopefully the change of location and addition of an outside play area will give us the opportunity to see more of them enjoying their additional freedom and new environment.
Kitty – is now five months old, and although kept under close supervision for the moment, is beginning to make more regular visits to the lounge areas where we everyone can enjoy her company and playful antics.
We are pleased to welcome our new cook Julie as a valuable addition to our catering team. The team have put together a new menu, which includes new seasonal produce, a variety of new supper dishes and an even greater range of home-made cakes and biscuits. The new four week menu has evolved with the help of residents’ comments and feedback. It is available in print and being introduced at the end of April.
DATE FOR DIARY
We are taking part in the National Care Home Open Day on Friday 19th June 2015, and looking forward to welcoming old and new friends to Pine Lodge. More details to follow.
